Troubleshooting
QR code won’t scan / "already used" error
3 min read · Updated September 13, 2026
A QR code that won't scan and an "already used" error follow different check sequences. If the code won't scan, check how it's displayed on screen or use a supported manual install; if you see "already used," first check whether that eSIM is already installed on your phone.
When the QR won't scan
- Turn the brightness up to maximum on the screen showing the QR code
- Display the QR large on a PC or another phone screen and scan that
- Wipe the camera lens and keep a suitable distance
- If it still won't work, switch to manual install
Manual install (without a QR)
Most phones support "enter details instead of a QR." Type in the SM-DP+ address and activation code your provider gave you, and it installs without a QR. Both iPhone and Galaxy offer a manual-entry option on the add-eSIM screen.
The "already used" error
If you see this error, first check your phone's line list in Settings to see whether that eSIM is already installed. If it installed on your first attempt, there's no need to reinstall — just turn that line on and use it. If it's not in the list or the error keeps appearing, ask your provider to check, along with the error screen and your order details.
FAQ
I accidentally scanned the QR twice. Do I have to buy it again?
Before buying again, check your phone's line list. If it installed on the first attempt, you can turn on and use the same eSIM. If it's not in the list or the error keeps appearing, ask your provider to check.
Where do I get the manual install details?
Check whether your order history or email provides an SM-DP+ address and activation code. If you can't find them, ask your provider which install methods are supported.
